ASDA Sainsbury’s & Co-op recall: Urgent food recall issued over allergy fears

ASDA, Sainsbury’s, Co-op all stock products from Welsh Cottage Cakes, and now the brand is recalling its Spelt & Fruit Cake due to undeclared wheat. The wheat could pose a health risk to those with an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten.

Welsh Cottage Cakes wrote: “We regret that Welsh Cottage Cakes Spelt & Fruit Cake is temporarily withdrawn from sale due to incorrect wording on label. It should not state ‘making it ideal for those with wheat gluten intolerance’.”

Concerned customers should contact 01558 824213 or sales@welshcottagecakes.co.uk for further information.

The company sells their products in ASDA, Sainsbury’s Co-op, Spar, Nisa, Premier, Stans Superstore, Tuffins Supermarket, CK Foodstores, Today’s Group and a host of independent stores around Wales.

They also sell to wholesalers, who then sell on to a range of stores around the UK.

The Food Standard Agency (FSA) warned that some of the Cadbury Dairy Milk Little Robins packs have been found to contain Cadbury Dairy Milk Little Robins Daim Chocolate due to a packing error.

In a statement released by the FSA, it warns that: “This error may not be immediately obvious as the individual chocolate pieces within the bag are wrapped in a similar foil.”

This product contains almonds (nuts) making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to nuts.

The products impacted are batch code CIS3092812 and CIS3092822 with a best before the date of March 31, 2020.
