“Whether it’s because of a saucy innuendo or a prank, Holly and Phil seem to be in a semi-permanent state of helpless, sniggering laughter at all times on This Morning,” Judi James told the Sun.
“We’ve seen it when they look at rude Father’s Day cards, or make a slip of the tongue over a ‘rigid shaft’ as they did recently, and this defines their chemistry as that of two naughty best friends at school.”
Judi suggested the secret to the pair’s success is their “fake flirting”.
She continued: “Holly and Phil have just enough fake flirting to create effective sofa chemistry, but without once suggesting there is any genuine attraction.
Looking at one picture of the pair after a spider prank, Judi remarked: “Pranks against Holly, like scaring her with a huge spider on Halloween, will send her clinging to Phil.
“But the truncated flirt gestures are devoid of any proper sexual chemistry.
“She snuggles into Phil’s side for protection but her head is held away from his body and her hand doesn’t appear to make contact either.”
In contrast, Judi describes Holly and Dec’s onscreen relationship as “spontaneously tactile”.
