Head-to-toe red was a major trend on the spring 2018 runways. What’s less clear is how one who is not regularly on a runway — in other words, a regular person — should attempt the look. There’s a reason stops signs are red. Yet precisely because of its alarming qualities, red can completely energize an ensemble and perhaps even your state of mind — a bonus most of us could benefit from in late winter. Here’s how to do it without feeling as if you’re a walking target.
Low-key head-to-toe red? It can be done. Wide-leg pants paired with a roomy sweatshirt take the color down a notch. Add a beanie and sporty sneakers and hit the streets. Your friends will be happy to spot you in the crowd.

Step Out After Dark
If you have a fancy event on the calendar and want to make a statement, here’s your chance. The key is to commit fully to the look. After all, a red dress isn’t unexpected or particularly daring. But when it’s a long-sleeve silky number, and every other bit of you is dripping in red (no black or nude stockings, under any circumstances), it’s a P.S.A.-level statement. Add stilettos and paint the town … well, you know.

Fact: It’s next to impossible to remain unmotivated at your desk when fitted out in a bright red suit. To keep from feeling as if you’ve stepped back into the 1980s, go for one with a slouchy silhouette. Accessorize with the footwear shape of the season (a glove boot) and a business-as-usual tote.
