Shane Jr., whose mother is Coleen Nolan, has spoken out about his worry that his dad will accidentally make a gag that is no longer acceptable.
He added that he was surprised that Shane, 56, did not make a joke about the rats in his Wicked Waterways trial on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2020, comparing them to the Nolans.
Shane Jr., 31 said: “I get nervous about what my dad might say, at the end of the day, he’s a 90s comic.
“What they used to be able to get away with, the sexist comments, you can’t say that stuff.
“Not that he means it or believes it.
“But you just can’t say, ‘You all right love? What are you wearing?’ It’ll rub someone up the wrong way.”
He added to The Mirror that Shane often makes jokes about Coleen and her family, and predicted his dad must be desperately holding his tongue.
Shane famously cheated on Coleen during their nine-year marriage in the 1990s, where they had sons Shane Jr. and Jake, 28.
In his autobiography, Rags to Richie, Shane admitted to having a booze-fuelled threesome with two backpackers, while also hiding another secret girlfriend from Coleen.
But Shane Jr. does not hold a grudge after his father’s infidelity caused the marriage to crumble, as it was so long ago.
Shane Jr. said that despite his dad’s absence in his childhood, when it comes to his younger children “he is the dad he always should’ve been”.
Shane has three younger children, Mackenzie Blue, Lolita Bell and Romani-Skye Angel Shelley, with his second wife, Christie, who he has been married to since 2007.
Shane Jr. has defended his dad from “bullying” accusations after the EastEnders actor and fellow campmate AJ Pritchard feuded over the cleaning.
Shane Jr. reminded viewers they were only watching select clips from a 24-hour day and branded people who called him a bully “snowflakes”.
I’m a Celebrity returns this evening at 9pm on ITV.
