Felicita Sala, the illustrator of “She Made a Monster,” in her studio in Rome.
“My favorite thing about my studio is the huge amount of natural light. I keep some of my older work around, to remember things I’ve done well and keep on that track. And I keep old photos in here, some I’ve found and one of my grandmother when she was young, and a lot of old picture books, contemporary books from other illustrators and vintage ones. I keep other helpful books — anatomy, science, poetry. Sometimes I go to work at a collective studio in Trastevere, nearby, which I like because I talk to other illustrators about our work, and we exchange tips.”
