Tonight’s edition of The Archers saw Jim Lloyd (played by John Rowe) helping Susan Carter (Charlotte Martin) in the local shop.
The two were left surprised when Natasha Archer (Mali Harries) walked in with some flowers and another unexpected item.
It was revealed Natasha had discovered a piece of bunting which had gone missing many years ago on the BBC Radio 4 show.
And, the discovery of the stolen item sent many of those listening to the episode into a frenzy.
“Hi, I’ll take these please,” Natasha said handing over some flowers.
As Susan noted she had chosen a “nice bouquet” Natasha remarked: “The last one in your bucket.
“Oh, you’re lucky then,” Susan told her. “Were not due anymore until tomorrow .
Natasha continued: “They’re for Pat. She’s invited us for lunch. And, I also found this out there.”
Jim gasped: “Good heavens,” as Natasha explained: “I don’t know what it was doing on your door handle. It looks a bit tatty.”
Susan noted: “It can’t be.”
“Do you know what it is?” Natasha asked. Susan explained: “That’s been missing for years. It’s a piece of Fallon’s stolen bunting.”
Later in the episode, Susan said to Jim: “I wonder if it was Barry, who stole the bunting from the green in the first place…
“Kept it hidden for years and then stuck a piece on the door for mischief?”
Jim asked: “Can you imagine anyone being that stupid?”
“We’re talking about Barry. Well I’ll have to tell Fallon what happened,” Susan commented.
The mention of bunting thrilled fans with many taking to Twitter to comment on the stolen item.
“The Bunting is back … put the flags out! …(see what I’ve done there?) #TheArchers,” one listener shared.
Another asked: “Hang on, when did the bunting get stolen? #thearchers.”
A third continued: “Oh my stars! It’s the Bunting! #thearchers @dumteedum.”
“A piece of Fallon’s bunting!!! *KLAXON* #thearchers,” someone else wrote.
The Archers airs weekdays on BBC Radio 4 at 7pm.
