The Big Bang Theory saw Leonard Hofstadter (played by Johnny Galecki) appear as one of the first members to be added to the cast in season one.
In the first episode Leonard appeared as Sheldon’s (Jim Parsons) awkward roommate who quickly developed feelings for waitress Penny (Kaley Cuoco) who lived in his building.
Fans watched as their relationship developed over time, with the final season of the CBS sit-com ending with the couple expecting their first child.
However, with the final season wrapped and all storylines tied up, Leonard actor Johnny Galecki has revealed what he will be appearing in next.
Fans may know that before Johnny appeared on The Big Bang Theory, he made a name for himself on Roseanne as David Healy, a love interest for Darlene Conner (Sara Gilbert).
After the lead actress’ shock exit, the series has since taken on a new name as The Conners, which Johnny briefly reappeared in last season.
However, the appearance wasn’t a one off as Johnny recently revealed he will be making a comeback to the series in a recent Instagram post.
The caption read: “I may be putting the (literal/figurative) pants of #davidhealy back on for one or two more stories on @theconnersabc this year.
“Twenty some years later I’m still in awe of this freakass carnie group who adopted me early on and still learn so very much from them whenever in their presence.@thesaragilbert #lauriemetcalf”
Fans were delighted by the news with many hoping for rekindled romance between David and Darlene.
one user commented: “Can’t wait to see what’s gonna happen between Darlene and David!!!”
A second added: I hope they put David and Darlene back together. I don’t like they broke them up in the first place and turn your character David who he is not.
“David and Darlene were one of my Favorite 90’s Couples.”
The announcement comes after The Big Bang Theory director Mark Cendrowski spoke out about how Johnny’s character made the show so popular.
Speaking to TV Insider Mark revealed: “There’d not been — call them nerds if you want — a show based around these brilliant minds and what they did with comic books.”
Mark added: “But early on, I could tell when I started talking to people, once the show was on the air, people that were not comic book people, that were maybe a little older, were not nerdy, were not video game players — they still related to these characters. It appealed to everybody.
“You didn’t have to be a nerd or anything specific to have trouble as a guy talking to a girl.
“What Leonard goes through with Penny in the beginning is common for every guy, in one way or another.
While details of how long Johnny will be on the show are unknown, fans are sure to see Johnny bring the same popularity to the show.
The Big Bang Theory season 12 is available on CBS and All4.
