‘Unmasked,’ a Musical Celebrating Andrew Lloyd Webber, to Open at Playhouse in N.J.

A new musical celebrating the life and work of Andrew Lloyd Webber will open the 2018-2019 season at the Paper Mill Playhouse, the theater announced Friday.

The musical, “Unmasked,” created by Richard Curtis and John Doyle, will feature some of Mr. Lloyd Webber’s most well known songs as well as the stories behind their creation. New songs by the composer will also be included.

“We start from the position of having in the show a huge collection of some of the greatest songs ever written for musical theater — and then learn more about Andrew and his way of working and how the music relates to him and his life,” Mr. Curtis said in a statement.

As the maestro behind “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Evita,” “Cats” and “The Phantom of the Opera,” among others, Mr. Lloyd Webber has an enormous amount of work to draw from. His memoir, also titled “Unmasked,” will serve as the inspiration for the show’s autobiographical element. It is set to be released on March 6.

“Unmasked” is slated to run from Sept. 27 to Oct. 28 at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, N.J. Individual tickets will go on sale Monday, Aug. 20. More information is available at papermill.org.
