Westworld season 3 spoilers: Will Jimmi Simpson return as William? | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

It’s almost a year since Westworld season two was released and fans are eager to see season three arrive back on screens. Sadly, it looks like the HBO series is still a long way off as filming is only due to begin in March. So it could be 2020 before the next batch of episodes is released.

There has been no new news on the Westworld season three front for a while.

But the Television Critics Association press tour last week saw some new information divulged.

The Wrap reported that HBO programming chief Casey Bloys confirmed that filming for season three is due to begin in March.

Season one came out in October 2016 and season two came out two years later in April 2018.

So it’s likely that we won’t be seeing season three till 2020 at this rate.

Will Jimmi Simpson return as William in Westworld season 3?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Westworld season 2

The short answer is no. It doesn’t look like Jimmi Simpson will be reprising his role as the younger version of Ed Harris’ William aka the Man in Black for season three.

Simpson himself confirmed the news at the Television Critics Association press tour as reported by The Wrap.

“I believe for now, Young William, his story is less of a focus there,” he said.

“I feel like I can officially say that I have not been invited [back for Season 3],” he later told the publication.

The Black Mirror actor was at the TCA tour to promote his upcoming series Perpetual Grace, LTD.

Season three will likely see the show undergo a soft reboot as the limitations of the first two series have been lifted.

The season two finale set the show up for a very different future – and the Man in Black is not a part of it.

Three hosts entered the real world at the end; Dolores (played by Evan Rachel Wood), Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) and the host body of Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson).

Disguised as Charlotte Hale, Dolores finally left Westworld.

She returned to Arnold’s home on the mainland where he brought her before he died, as shown earlier this season.

With this scenario in mind, park creator Arnold left a host making facility in the home and Dolores returns there and recreated her old body.

She also rebuilt Bernard, thus setting up the story to take place outside the park in season three.

The Man in Black (Ed Harris) killed his daughter Emily (Katja Hebers) believing she was a host and then awoke in the Forge, his mind trapped in a hell of his own creation.

Simpson’s version of William only exists in the earlier timeline, so unless the show revisits this time, he is unlikely to return.

Westworld is quite unpredictable so anything is really possible.
