Alex first started on the programme in 2005 but earlier this year she announced she made the “huge decision” to leave her position after getting a job at ITV’s West Country.
During her last appearance today, she admitted that she was close to breaking down saying goodbye to the huge chapter in her life.
She explained: “It’s time for me to say goodbye – hashtag not crying – this has been my last programme for BBC Points West.
“And I wanted to say we have been through a lot over the past 18 years, haven’t we? It has been an absolute joy to spend that time with you, even through the hardest times.
“I just wanted to say that those of you that ever come up to as some of you sometimes do and say things like, ‘We really feel like we know you’.
“That is truly the greatest compliment that I could ever receive and it’s been an absolute privilege.”
As she continued talking to the viewers, she was surprised by co-star David Garmston, who carried in a huge bouquet of flowers for her.
Feeling thankful for the gesture, she exclaimed: “You’re my telly husband and one of my best friends, I love you.”
David replied: “I just want to thank you, from the BBC, from the viewers and from me for everything you’ve done over the last 18 years.
“It’s been amazing, you’re as lovely off-screen as you are on and we’re really going to miss you.”
Signing off with her final words, she said: “Take care, everybody, thank you so much and for the messages as well, I may not be able to respond but thank you”
Taking to her X account, formerly known as Twitter, she thanked everyone for the kind messages and said: “OMG I just cannot thank you enough for all your beautiful, generous and very kind messages.
“After an epic day and evening, with the most wonderful speech from @DavidGarmston, I have only just got round to reading them all. I’m very moved – thank you.” (sic)
