Danny John Jules: Strictly hopeful says he ‘doesn’t socialise’ with ‘luvvie’ co-stars | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

The 57-year-old Strictly Come Dancing 2018 contestant said he has chosen not to spend time with his fellow cast members.

“I haven’t socialised with any of those people outside the show,” he said. “My focus is my next number.

“I have not been out after work with one single member of the cast, not once have I been out with them, whatever it is,” he told The Sun.

The Red Dwarf star continued: “Anything that is part of our contract, for example It Takes Two, I’ll do, but as far as socialising, I have not been out with one member of the cast.”

Taking a swipe at the rest of the Strictly Come Dancing 2018 family, Danny insisted: “We came here to be tested, not to prance up and down like some old luvvie, drinking martinis and having the odd knees-up.”

His comments contrast with the usual rhetoric surrounding the much-loved BBC show, which fosters close friendships among the many contestants, past and present.

Danny also compared himself, “an entertainer”, to the “celebrities” on Strictly.

“I’m on a different level,” he said, saying he came up working with the likes of Normal Wisdom and Vince Hill.

“They’re stars,” he added. “Celebrities today are an insult to those guys.”

Meanwhile, Danny has been one of the leaders of the pack on Strictly since this series began almost two months ago.

Having previously topped the leaderboard, he found himself suffering an enormous blow last night when he landed at the very bottom.

The judges scored the actor just 22 points for his Quickstep after the performance was plagued by mistakes.

After Danny started the routine on the wrong foot, throwing the entire thing off course, Bruno Tonioli, 62, said: “There is nothing like the communist performer experience to cover a multitude of sins.

“You covered so many mistakes tonight. You covered it like I cannot believe.”

“I think nerves and adrenaline took over on that performance because it just went completely out of whack,” Craig Revel Horwood, 53, chipped in.

“It’s such a shame. And, as Bruno says, you are a showman and you can cover stuff up, but not for us, darling,” he added.

Darcey Dussel, 49, said it was “just so obvious” when he went out of sync with partner Amy Dowden, 27, while Shirley Ballas, 57, said: “It just snowballed and you just didn’t recover at all.”

Tonight, fans will find out if Danny and Amy earned enough votes from the public to avoid the dreaded dance off.

The votes will be combined with the judges scores in order to decide who goes head-to-head in a bid to keep their place in the competition.

The Strictly Come Dancing results show airs tonight at 7.50pm on BBC One.
