How to remove patio weeds: 27p essential removes weeds from patios in a few days

Weeds growing in pavers and patios can be unsightly, especially if they’re left to grow out of control.

Removing them can be tricky, especially if you try and pull them out by hand.

Luckily, fans of cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch have shared their tips for removing patio weeds.

Mrs Hinch, whose full name is Sophie Hinchliffe, is a cleaning expert and influencer who has almost five million followers on Instagram.

Over the years, her fans and followers have taken to social media to share their own tips for solving common household and gardening problems.

Facebook user Lianne Moreland said: “Okay, a wee cheeky tip to get rid of weeds on the path. Pour salt on it. Let it dry for a few days and brush them away! Magic!”

The post was inundated with responses from fellow Mrs Hinch fans who claimed the hack worked.

Cath Marsh said: “My mum always poured the salted water from boiling vegetables over the weeds.”

Helen Sheiles commented: “Strong salty water in a spray bottle – it works.”

Lily OftheValley replied: “It works best if you water it in. I get the plastic 750g tall tubs from Asda for 30p and pour it into any cracks in the path.

“And then use a very gentle one or two-second shower spray from the hose to wet it without making it run away from the bit I want to get rid of.

“It takes a few days to start dying off and I have gone over tough parts two or three times. Brilliant though.” Sarah Watson agreed and wrote: “Yes, salt works great.”

Salt can be bought from local supermarkets, online or from most convenience stores. Cook with M&S Table Salt costs 40p from Ocado, Tesco Table Salt costs 27p and Asda Table salt costs 65p.

Other suggestions from Mrs Hinch fans for removing patio weeds included using bleach, boiling water and white vinegar.

Judith Walker commented: “Bleach will also do the trick.”

Gail Burke replied: “You can also pour boiling water (from your kettle) onto the weeds… kills it instantly.”

Ruby Briggs responded to the post: “Vinegar works a treat as well!”
