Jeremy Clarkson urges UK ‘bring back chain gang’ and force prisoners to clear litter issue | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Jeremy Clarkson has urged the government to clamp down on Britain’s litter problems which have sparked huge clean-up operations around the country. The Grand Tour host fumed that parks “up and down the land” have been covered in a “blanket of litter”.

The 61-year-old addressed the issue in his latest column after litter issues have continued in recent days in many local parks.

People have met in crowds across the UK despite the ongoing rule of six.

The former Top Gear host has since said prisoners should be made to go out and clean up the litter as Britain’s volunteers can’t “cope”.

Writing in The Sun, Jeremy vented: “After the heatwave ended this week and we all went back into hibernation, every single park in the land was covered in a foot-deep blanket of litter.

“And I wasn’t in the least bit surprised.”

The TV star made a suggestion for a bid to clear up the rubbish as he explained the question had previously been posed to Michael Gove, the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster,

Jeremy continued: “Two years ago, a councillor in Kent wrote to Michael Gove, the then Secretary of State for the Environment, asking why prisoners could not be made to clear up litter strewn alongside the A2.

“He was told his idea was a ‘joke’. But I can’t see why.”

Police were forced to break up crowds and sent revellers packing after 40 people gathered for a party on a beach in Devon despite the ongoing rule of six.

In Wales, the council was forced to carry a large clean-up operation after hundreds of people gathered outside a government building in Cardiff Bay and left piles of rubbish on the ground behind instead of using the bins.

Elsewhere, Jeremy revealed he recently lost a debate with his girlfriend Lisa Hogan on their farm shop’s Instagram page.

Jeremy and Lisa, 47, reside on a farm and run their shop together in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire.
