Season five of Outlander is still filming in Scotland with the cast completing work on the upcoming series. The new series will see the story combining events from Diana Gabaldon’s novels The Fiery Cross and A Breath of Snow and Ashes. This means, it’s hard to predict the direction of the story and which plot points are going to be making the final cut.

However, actress and producer Caitriona Balfe seemed to drop a major hint about the new series.
Speaking on the Starz panel at New York Comic Con, she said about Claire’s medical endeavours: “It’s really interesting – this season in particular – I don’t think it’s too much of a tell or is it? Can I talk about it?”
Producer Maril Davis, who was also on the panel, responded: “I’m not sure what you’re going to say.”
Caitriona replied: “What she finds?” The producer simply answered: “I think I’d skip around it.”
The actress then tried to manoeuvre past her faux pas, saying: “Oh god! So, she’s in her surgery – but it’s really interesting and a combination of Claire using her knowledge from the 60s and what’s around her and try and keep everybody safe at the Ridge.
“She’s created this amazing surgery. It’s a beautiful, beautiful set.
“I get to do lots of different operations this season and it’s quite cool.”
Although she didn’t give anything away, it seems the actress may have let something important slip.
Her words suggest that Claire could be making a shocking discovery – could she find another time traveler as she did with the skull of Otter Tooth (Trevor Carroll)?
Another option could be an object from the future that has been given to her to aid her medical work.
In the books, Claire discovers her granddaughter Amanda Claire Hope MacKenzie has a heart murmur which she cannot safely mend in the 18th Century.
She advises Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton) and Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin) to travel back to the future to repair the heart defect.
The actress didn’t made it clear whether the discovery would be an object or perhaps a malady, causing further speculation.
Whatever Claire finds is going to be significant and could have an effect on the rest of the story.
Reflecting generally about Claire’s love story with Jamie (Sam Heughan), she said: “It’s so wonderful to be able to play a relationship that keeps growing and growing and keeps deepening and deepening
“I think that’s something you really see evidence of this season and it’s just that time and that love they have for each other, it just keeps expanding.
“You don’t think that’s possible from season one but it really does. They’re there for each other no matter what.
“They support each other though really tough times and they’re knowledge of each other and how intimately they know what’s going on inside of each other. I think it’s really beautiful.”
