Season four of Riverdale paid respect to Luke Perry this evening as the storyline addressed his death with his character Fred Andrews meeting a tragic end. Luke sadly died earlier this year at the age of 52 after suffering a stroke. The opening instalment of The CW saw Fred’s body brought home to Riverdale from Cherry Creek. Separately, there was a distinctly dark, typical Riverdale scene involving Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch).
Is Jason Blossom alive in Riverdale?
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Riverdale season 4, episode 1
The first episode saw Cheryl going to the summer house where she greeted her twin brother Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines).
The camera quickly cut to Jason’s very dead corpse, which sat lifelessly while she chatted casually to him over a cup of tea.
The whole sequence played out like a scene from Psycho with Cheryl almost assuming the role of Norman Bates.
However, the sinister scene was cut short after Cheryl opened the local newspaper to discover the 4th July Independence Day parade would be going ahead.
Cheryl was furious as this was the date that Jason had died in a boating accident at Sweetwater River back in season one.
The fuming River Vixen when to confront her fellow students about the decision to hold a parade, which she felt disrespected her sibling’s memory.
Judging from Jason’s lifeless body in the disturbing scene, Jason is very much dead and gone.
Despite being dead, Jason has returned to Riverdale in various forms including as a figure in the dream.
Season one focused on the death of Jason, who met a sad demise in mysterious circumstances.
By the end of the season, it was revealed that Jason had been killed by his own father Clifford Blossom (Barclay Hope).
Jason had uncovered his father was making money by transporting heroin to Montreal rather than maple syrup which had once been the family business.
On top of that, Clifford was planning to hand the business over to Jason but the teen refused.
Instead, Jason and his girlfriend Polly Cooper (Tiera Skovbye) planned to run away together and start over.
When Clifford discovered Jason’s plans to flee, he was bumped off by his father.
In season three, Cheryl thought her brother was still alive after she kept seeing a red-headed figure around.
In reality, it was Chic Cooper (Hart Denton) who’d been enlisted by Penelope Blossom (Nathalie Boltt) to dye his hair and play mind games with the Cheryl and her friends.
Edgar Evernever (Chad Michael Murray) was also trying to convince Cheryl her brother was still alive so that she would join the Farm in earnest.
